American elderberry (Sambucus canadensis) is one of the easiest and most versatile shrubs used for edible landscaping. This deciduous, native perennial has fragrant flowers and dark purple berries that are high in Vitamin C and antioxidants. Often referred to as “nature’s medicine chest,” both its flowers and berries can be used in culinary & herbal preparations.
The North Carolina Cooperative Extension, Alleghany County Center, is offering an elderberry workshop on February 26, 2020, at 5:30 p.m. on the 2nd floor (street level) conference room of the County Office Building at 90 South Main Street, Sparta, NC. In this hands-on workshop, you will learn two methods of propagation, growing requirements and maintenance, and take home cuttings. You will also learn how to make simple elderberry syrup.
The cost of the workshop is $10 per person and is limited to 15 participants. You can register by filling out this Google Registration Form, in person at the N.C. Cooperative Extension of Alleghany County office or by calling 336-372-5597. ***You are NOT considered fully registered until the registration fee has been paid.***
