Polk County Livestock Association luncheon

With the addition of an Equine and Livestock Agriculture Agent in Polk County this year, it was a good time to kick off a new venture: the Polk County Livestock Association. Although Polk County had a Cattleman’s Association for many years, participation had waned in recent years, and the association didn’t fully reflect the growth in popularity of other livestock breeds in Polk County such as goats, sheep, chickens, rabbits, and pigs.

On November 16, 2021, Agent Cassie LeMaster led the first official meeting of the newly formed association, which took place at the N.C. Cooperative Extension, Polk County Center in Columbus. Attendees shared lunch together and discussed issues of importance to them such as the need for a local processing facility.

  • Nancy Mahler, nominated for board member

The next meeting of the Polk County Livestock Association will take place on February 15 with a presentation from Pinnacle Meats. If you would like to stay informed on livestock related information in Polk County, contact Kerry Jones.
