Judging Information

Youth Arts & Crafts, Photography, Canned & Baked Goods

Entry Check-in: Monday & Tuesday, August 14 & 15 during office hours 9 a.m.–4 p.m.
Location: Swain County Cooperative Extension Center, 60 Almond School Road
(any entry received after these dates will not be judged)

Entry Pick-up: Monday, August 21, 2023 from 10 a.m.–5 p.m.
(unless items will be entered in the Mountain State Fair & picked up by the Pony Express)*

Youth Horticulture – Garden Vegetables, Fruit, Eggs, Flowers

Entry Check-in: Friday, August 18 from 1:00 p.m. – 5:30 p.m.
Location: Great Smoky Mountains Event Park, 1130 Hyatts Creek Road, Bryson City (any entry received after 5:30 p.m. will not be judged)

Entry Pick-up: Claim produce by 5 p.m. on the day of the Fair. All unclaimed produce will be given away or thrown away at the end of Fair hours.


Exhibitor Information
Division A:  Ages 5-8 ~ Non-Competitive
Division B:  Ages 9-13
Division C: Ages 14-18
Division D: Special Needs All Ages ~ Non-Competitive

The youth division is divided into two age groups for judging: 9-13 and 14-18. Judging procedures and criteria for these ages are the same as for adult divisions. All exhibits must be the work of the youth and made within the last two years. Rosettes will be awarded in the 9-13 and 14-19 age groups ONLY. In addition, first, second and third place ribbons will be awarded. For ages 5-8, entries will be based on quality of the exhibit rather than by the rules stated above. Youth ages 5-8 and Special Needs all ages will receive a purple ribbon.

Procedure for Entry
All exhibits must be the work of the exhibitor and must have been created after the previous year’s County Fair. All entries must have (Name, Age, Division, Class, and Category). Use may use the included Tag (see below). Be sure tag is secured on your item. If tag is not secured, item may not be judged or returned to you.

All art must be mounted ready to hang. No loose-leaf paper or coloring pages. No limitations on size for any art work. Any size will be accepted as long at it is mounted.

*NOTE – Mountain State Fair Entry & the Pony Express

To also, enter your items in the 2023 Mountain State Fair, first go to the Mountain State Fair website to find registration information.

If you choose to utilize the Pony Express for transport, your items will be picked up from the Extension Office on or before August 25. The Pony Express will transport your entries to the Mountain State Fair for judging and display. Items will then be returned to the Extension Office after the fair by September 27.
