Baked Good Entry Information
All Baked Goods Entries must be received at the N.C. Cooperative Extension of Swain County office between Monday, August 14, and Tuesday, August 15, 2023. Office hours are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. All entries must be received during this time. No exceptions.
Baked Goods entries will be judged before Saturday, August 19, 2023, and will be disposed of once they have been judged.
Awards and Judging:
First, second, and third place ribbons will be awarded in all classes. Entries must be the work of the exhibitor. Exhibitors are allowed more than one entry per class.
Baked Goods Rules
- All baked goods become the property of the Swain County Agricultural Fair.
- Commercially prepared mixes, pie shells, or fillings may not be used.
- Entry forms must be completed with the designated appropriate class for judging.
- Recipe must be submitted with all baked goods. Entries without recipe will not be accepted.
- All baked goods must be submitted in disposable pans or plates and must be covered and sealed with disposable lids or clear plastic wrap. Baked goods will be disposed of once they have been judged.
- Make sure you submit the quantity indicated for each category.
- Pictures of entries will be taken for display.
Judging Criteria:
- 15 points: Appearance – Shape, Size, Rounded, Even
- 20 points: Crust – Color, Crispness, Thickness, Flakey
- 30 points: Crumb – Texture, Lightness, Moist, Color
- 35 points: Flavor – Taste Texture, Moist
- TOTAL: 100 points
Quantities for each Class:
- Breads – 1 loaf
- Cakes – 1 whole cake
- Cookies/Brownies – 6 each entry
- Pies – 1 whole pie
Division:
- Youth – 18 and younger
- Adult – 19 and older

- Chocolate Chip (with or without nuts)

- Peanut Butter
- Sugar
- Brownies
- Bar (specify)
- Wild Card (other cookie entries)
SECTION 4 – PIES CLASS
- Fruit Pies – single crust
- Fruits Pies – double crust
- Cream Pies (Key Lime, Peanut Butter, Lemon Meringue, Chocolate Pudding & more)
- Custard Pies (Pumpkin, Lemon, Coconut, Buttermilk Chess & more)
- Pecan
- Wild Card (other pie entries)
