Why wait until the New Year to start your journey to better health and fitness! There are approximately 6 weeks (about 1 and a half months) left until the end of the year so why not consider joining our 6 Week Fit Family Walking Challenge!
SOME OF THE MANY BENEFITS OF WALKING ARE:
- Social – exercise is always more fun with a friend. Having someone join you on your walks also helps keep you accountable, especially on those days you might not want to go.
- Improves Cardiovascular/Aerobic Fitness – walking at a moderate to brisk pace can help improve your heart and lung strength and keep them working more efficiently.
- Improves Overall Health- can help lower blood pressure, improve sleep, increase energy, slow down the aging process and reduce the risk for disease.
- Low Stress – puts very little strain on bones and joints.
- Bone Health – considered a weight bearing activity. Increases strength in leg muscles and improves the strength and overall health of your bones.
- Maintain or lose weight – increasing muscle mass and helping your body burn calories.
- Can do it anywhere.
- Inexpensive
- Anyone can do it!
- No special equipment (other than comfortable clothing, well fitting, comfortable, sturdy shoes, sunscreen/bug spray, water).
HOW TO GET MORE OUT OF YOUR WALKS:
- Weighted extremities – hand weights, wrist weights, ankle weights
- Rucking – weighted backpack or wearing a weighted vest
- Ski Walking – helps with balance, stability, efficiency, and speed
