Celebrate Arbor Day
National Arbor Day is April 24, 2020. While in years past this was a time for volunteer opportunities and community events for all ages, current CDC recommendations for COVID-19 make this year very different. But that doesn’t mean we can’t celebrate! Try these activities near home:
- DRAW A TREE: This is a great activity to do with young ones. Bring out the colored pencils and crayons and start drawing your best artwork.
- TAKE A WALK THROUGH THE WOODS: Find a nearby forest and go for a walk. Natural settings are effective in lowering stress. Exercising outdoors compared to exercising indoors helps people feel more revitalized, engaged with nature such as trees and less tense.
- ADOPT A TREE: Purchase a tree at a store to plant or find an already growing tree nearby your home and take pictures of this tree through the seasons for the next year. Keep a diary log on the tree when leaves appear, when they fall off this fall and or if an evergreen count the needles per bundle of needles. Identify animals that visit the tree. Find out what type of tree it is if you are unsure.
However you choose to celebrate, have a happy and healthy Arbor Day!
